The hanging ends the second trial, for which Saddam was accused of gassing people to death. He got the gas thanks to Rummy's visits in the 80's. With no Saddam, no continued trial, no world press covering the source of the gas.

No, I say he's happy about it. Saddam is no more "his old buddy" than Stalin was FDR or Harry Truman's "old buddy."
