Not really because you have to think of it from 98% of rappers life. These guys were abused, some shot, some abandoned, and some just flat out on their own at the age of 11 and had to feed himself with hooking up with a drug dealer and sale drugs. So that's all they know and saw, so if no aspects of your life was positive what could you rap about stuff.positive that would be some what a Hypocrite, right!

I think that the music you're talking about glorifies an already existing condition in society. By doing so, it encourages and perpetuates it. It wasn't the cause of it, but it has escalated the attitude and mentality that demeans humanity and exalts personal gain at another's expense. But that tendency is hardly limited to the rap and hip hop genres. Listen to Carrie Underwood singing about vandalizing her boyfriend's truck, for example. We are becoming more self centered and the music reflects it.

Well I do agree with you that some songs and artist out there are degrading and do speak of bitches and hoes and what not. There are however some that haven't sunk this low as to degrade women in this manner and I applaud them. I can think of one right now who raps and I haven't heard him degrade women yet. I'm sure there are more out there that don't and more power to those!
I also believe that this type of music you speak of has had a negative effect on our society. It has corrupted us as a whole!

Before rap and hip-hop it was rock music. Elvis with his evil music and sinful hip movements.
Is it the artist who are to blame or is it our culture? Music artist normally base their art on life. So their life becomes art which makes people want to imatate it. It's like a cycle. Really rap and hip-hop were not the ones to bring many of these things to light. Johnny cash sang about sex, drugs, and killing people. The 60s were full of songs about drugs and sex.
