I have always had a fear of throwing up. I would have mild panic attacks sitting in class or riding the bus or at work. Riding in other people's cars, especially the back seat, is the worst. For me it's not about being sick and alone - it is about having to throw up in front of people and not being able to get outside or to a bathroom in time. I actually don't want my boyfriend home if I'm feeling sick. Not that it would actually make be feel better if I was alone - I would still have the panic. I also have a phobia of food-borne illness that is related to my phobia of throwing up.
The episodes used to happen a lot in high school but it decreased when I went off to college. However I do still have episodes once in a while where I am convinced I'm going to puke. I just try to talk sense to myself and breathe deeply. I have never actually thrown up when I've had these panic attacks, and that's what I try to tell myself.
As far as building up your immune system...I'm a grade-school teacher. I don't think there's any better way to build antibodies (knock on wood)! I just feel grateful that this issue hasn't built into a full-blown panic disorder for me - I can still go to work and participate in society. I know there are people out there who are not able to do these things.
I hope you find something that works for you. I did a research paper on agoraphobia when I was in college and I was able to adapt some coping suggestions from the books I read to my own situation. Maybe something like that could help you too.

I hope you don't get sick- it's horrible being sick with no one to take care of you. I hate throwing up too, but I feel SO much better afterwards. I think the nausea is the worst. Some things that help me not get sick- drink white tea. You can get this at the grocery store. White tea has 16 times the antioxidants that 1 glass of orange juice has. Also, the vitamin pills called emergen-c (i think that is how it's spelled) give you those extra vitamins to help your immune system. My last roommate uses it and she's never sick.

I hate throwing up, but if I need to throw up, I tend to feel a lot better once I've done it. Don't eat anything to rich or that you know will upset your stomach. As far as protecting yourself from a virus, there's not much more you can do than all that disinfecting, I suppose. Soemone said to take in lots of vitamin C. Go for it, but bear in mind that it's water soluable, so if you get more than your daily need, you'll jsut pee it out and it really won't help you in anyway.

God bless you. I hope you never get sick when you're alone then. I hate vomiting and I will fight it every way I can, however the very last time I was sick I felt that if I vomited I WOULD feel better and I did.
