Look for a higher thread count, tpi , Threads Per Inch.
Higher thread count sheets will last much longer, less likely to rip or go threadbare after many washings, and less likely to get twisted when you toss and turn or shift your body position in bed, and less likely to slip out of bed. Higher thread count sheets are more likely to stay where you put them and give a more substantial comforting feeling.

Oh my, yes!! It's the thread count, actually. The higher the number, the better they feel. I purchased some expensive sheets on sale at Tuesday Morning for about $80, but the tag read regular price of $350. The thread count was 450. One night on those sheets ruined me for life. I want no others!! So now I am the first person through the door when Tuesday Morning opens, and I comb the sale isles at every good department store.

Most "expensive" sheet sets are worth the extra money but not all. Personally I like the higher thread counts and any labelled "satin" or "sateen" are going to be softer against your skin. Most people cannot tell the difference between a 300 thread count sheet (as far as comfort goes) versus a 500 thread count sheet. Plus they usually last longer than a $10 set. I love my more expensive cotton/sateen sheets!

It's not so much about comfy as it is about durability. The more expensive sheets are usually Egyptian cotton which is softer but the most important thing is the thread count. The higher the number, the longer the product will last.

It depends on if it's being marked up for simply the name. Generally, more expensive sheets would last longer, and have higher quality fabrics, cotton, etc. You need to feel the sheets, and decide for yourself. In my experience, you would do better purchasing more expensive sheets than $10 sheets from Wal-Mart.

It's not necessarily the most expensive that are the best, but the sheets with the highest thread count. Of course the better sheets with the higher thread counts do cost more than the $10 WalMart kind, but they are well worth it.

Judge sheets by their "threadcount." The higher the thread count, the softer and higher quality the sheets.

I doubt Wal Mart sells high quality high thread count sheets for $10.

Well, yes they are. You need to look for a higher thread count, I am sure Wal-mart sheets are like a 200 thread count, the higher the count the better the sheet and more spendy.

As long as the thread count is over 280, they should be fine, or if you buy precale sheets, the higher the count the better. I live the more expensive, because of the thread count, they seem to hold up better.

go by the thread count 170-200 ok but not great
300 better
400 very good
that is hte thread count in a square inch. so of course the 400 is tighter and stronger for wear and tear
