I made a simple mistake when I was 4 years younger. This mistake has a simple assault conviction on my background. I cant get a job or a place to live. Im living with my mom and her husband along with my 8yr old son. What do I do. Does anyone know any good attorneys in TN that can help me get this off of my record. Does anyone know where I maybe can work? Ive been denied several jobs and Ive lost a few because of this. It seems as if it actually did not start showing up until 2005. What do I do? Im really not a bad person I deserve to live my life and take care of my son without begging for work or shelter. I dont want handouts I want to support myself and my son like the average American.

Seeing that you cant get a good job because of your reputation I would try to find a attourney that does probono cases. Yeah, you should get your life back and hopefully this attourney can help. After all you do have a son to look after and he shouldnt have to suffer because of your backround. I hope you gain success and get your life back! Good luck to you and your son! =)

There's nothing a lawyer can do to get this removed from your record if you're weren't a minor and if you served serious time. Mistakes have a way of coming back from the past to haunt us at the worst time. But you live and you learn. Keep trying. The worst thing you could do is give up.

Perhaps for now you should seek out jobs that do not have background checks or require a clean criminal record to offer employment.

I would for sure see a attorney....or you can try a be honest and let the boss know where you want to work what happened and it was 4 years ago and of your situation and that you have changed and need someone to give you a break to prove yourself. And that everyone deserves a second chance, and that you would be a valuable employee.

What's interesting is that both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates have not-so-great records before starting their businesses. I mean, both of them dropped out of high school, and Bill Gates has DWI on his crime record.

Of course, this brings up the next best option, and probably the best paying one: running your own business or contracting business. You manage yourself as your own boss, and since you aren't an employee, you have nobody checking your background!

Goodluck with everything.

Should have thought of that before you did a "simple assault."

try volunteering, it won't erase your background but it will look like you're trying to change and turn things around
