eBay is OK, but some sellers are NO GOOD. Look at the FEEDBACK of a seller BEFORE you BID.
PayPal is NOT a bank. It is only a money conduit. If you are careful, you can get it to work for you, as it is Quick and Easy. But check out the SELLER. FEEDBACK is where the trust is built.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

so far I have had good luck'
I am sure there are shady sellers. But you leave feed back and no one likes to get negative remarks.
paypay you just sign up with your existing bank account (tangible) so to speak and they verify it, then you can add funding through CCards, bank account. You can also get a paypal credit card or an ATM card (which you can use anywhere and withdraw your money from at any time). You can use it as an online savings account also and it will pay interest. I have never had a problem with it's security or any disputes.

eBay is DEFINITELY a trusted and regulated site. If eBay CHEATS, they will go to hell! haha
Seriously, eBay is VERY easy to use. And it's already one of the Internet's top shopping portal for rare (hard to find) as well as 2nd-hand goods. Helicopters and airplanes (and I am not talking about toys) have been sold via eBay (no kidding!)
U can link up paypal to any US bank account or your debit card or your credit card. What this means, anyone can pay you at eBay using PayPal and vice versa.
The charges for PayPal.com is almost zero for a personal/individual account. It costs more for a merchant account (to set up a shopping cart on your own website for example).
If you sell at eBay, you only pay listing fees at eBay (plus extras for Picture Gallery or Top listing, etc ---> this may change from tme to time according to eBay's promotion) after your auction has ended. You can pay to the eBay USA office using money order, or simply pay eBay online.
If you are afraid of getting ripped off by eBay sellers (I think everyone does!), read sellers' testimonials. "Sent my money but never got anythin" kind of comments MA be a red flag.
Use your own judgement - look at other eBay seller's "stores" to see if there's a more trustworthy seller selling the same or similiar kind of thing you're looking for.
I suggest you sign up at both eBay and PayPal.com (you just need an email account to sign up) to get a feel of how both sites work. READ their guide - it's very useful and eBay also has great customer service support.

eBay is one of the most secure web sites in the world. Trust it without fear. Paypal is an electronic funds transfer medium, similar to direct deposit. Monies are "Deposited" into your account when people send it to you. You can add to your funds in other ways also. Personally I use Paypal like free money. I sell something on eBay that is no longer wanted, people send me money to my Paypal account, and I then use my Paypal credit card to purchase things needed. Gas, groceries etc. It's a beautiful thing. Go for it.

Well, the company eBay itself is trustworthy. It is publicly traded on the NASDAQ stock exchange. PayPal is owned by eBay and is also trustworthy.
That said, you can get ripped off by sellers on eBay. You should make sure that the seller is reputable, and that they have good solid feedback BEFORE you bid. I believe that eBay offers buyers $500 of fraud protection if they use paypal.
You should only conduct transactions directly through eBay, using PayPal.
The base PayPal account is free for eBay buyers, and it's all you need. I believe you can fund your account using Credit Card, and you checking/savings account, among other methods.
You might want to read (no offense) eBay for Dummies (http://www.amazon.com/eBay-Dummies-Fourth-Marsha-Collier/dp/0764556541).
You can also check out this eBay support article, "Trust and Safety on eBay": http://pages.ebay.com/help/newtoebay/resolving-concerns.html
Your e-mail will be visible to the seller, and I think also to other ebay users, so you should probably get a free yahoo mail account (mail.yahoo.com) just for ebay.
