I need to get something that is fragrance free as well......my baby has atopic eczema now.....so I have to be careful about laundry detergents......any recommendations? Thanks.

I use homemade laundry detergent. Saves TONS of money and works better than Tide (if you use the Fels Naptha soap)
A friend of mine had a child with sensative skin and she made this with Ivory soap and loved it! You can use any bar soap you want, even the johnson baby bar if you wanted to.
Liquid Laundry Detergent
½ bar Fels Naptha (or Ivory) Soap
3 pt Hot Water
1/2 c Washing Soda
½ c Borax
1 qt Hot Water
2 Gallon Bucket
Mix grated soap in 3 qt water over low heat until melted. Stir in washing soda and borax. Stir until thickened. Remove from heat.
Add 1 qt hot water to bucket. Add soap mixture and mix well. Fill bucket with hot water. Set aside for 24 hours or until thickened.
Use ½ cup per load.
Fels Naptha is a bar laundry soap found in the laundry section cost $1/bar if you can't find it go to http://www.dialcorp.com/ tolocate the nearest store that carries it
WASHING Soda is NOT the same as baking soda. Washing soda (about $4/box) should also be found int he laundry section, made by arm & Hammer

All Free and Clear is a great laundry detergent for anyone with sensitive skin. It has no dyes and no fragrances. I have found that Aveeno Oatmeal bath works great with my son's eczema. It's a powder that you sprinkle in the bath water. I also use Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal Lotion on him too. It's at Wal-mart in the Health and Beauty isle. I think they also make Aveeno products for infants too. They are a little pricey but work great!!!

When my daughter had that I used only Dreft detergent on her clothes. I found than an extra rinse cycle with a cup of white vinegar added helped to rinse out any detergent residue. I did this for cloth diapers as well as baby clothes. It seemed to work well.
Try to remember that the eczema looks painful, but it really doesn't bother the baby much at all. It is persistent stuff...can linger for months. Good luck to both of you.

Ivory or Dreft. My son has eczema as well. The doctor said that he would grow out of it but this is almost 4 and still has it. We use Aveeno cream to help with the itch and rash. Also you should do some research on homeopathic relief of eczema because I found one that you bath him in tea. I keep looking for the tea and haven't found it yet but I will try it when I do. Also they are supposed to eat a lot of veggie protein. Good Luck!

I use Tide-free, which is free of dyes and perfumes. My co-worker's husband is a big hunter, so he needs to wash his hunting clothes in detergent that has no fragrances. They buy their detergent from Shaklee, which makes a variety of vitamin supplements as well. You can check out the web-site. Also, Downy makes a free & sensitive fabric softener, which I also use. Ivory snow works very well, I know they used it in the hospital while my daughter stayed there, It is Super soft on the babies skin (because it is made for Babies) but it's a little on the expensive side, If you want you might want to call the local hospital and see what they use or recomend. You may also want to use your soap just a very VERY little bit of it. I did that but not until my daughter was about 6 months old. Hopefully that helps

Dreft is terrible and had loads of residue (no pun intended) check out the Seventh Generation baby detergent or an online company www.Melaleuca.com is the one I use

Don't use a detergent. Use Ivory Snow. Anything else( including Dreft which says it is mild enough for babies) is irritating.

Dreft or Ivory snow...but, and this is a bit expensive, the very best thing is wash once with those soaps, and then run another wash with just water. That will get out any residue.

Dreft is really great for baby's skin, also Tide Free which you can also use on your own clothes a great 2-in-1.
