I love it! The characters are so funny, and just the stuff they do and think crack me up. I love all the pranks people play on Dwight!

I've seen both versions. I prefer the British one because it's less touchy-feely, unafraid of the Uncomfortable Silence and more sharply observed.
The US version is ok, it's just a lot more like a traditional sitcom, with a bit too much emphasis on the Jim and Pam characters. The UK version was more about the office manager David Brent, and what a wally he was, and the boredom of a job like that.
I don't think either version is cruel or spiteful, on the contrary I think the writers of both shows have a lot of affection for the characters, it's just that the characters are so often not very bright.

I like it. It's one of the better sitcoms on American TV now. There's only a handful of decent ones. It pales in comparison the original The Office. Ricky Gervais is a genius. His is THE best sitcom to EVER be on television. If you haven't seen it, go rent the first season from Blockbuster and make a weekend of it. Then rent the second season the next weekend. The show is so great that you can end it with The Office Special. That's all there is to the entire show- it's so great that it ended before it could get stale. Perfect!

YeS. I like that show. I barely started watching it. Did you see the one where they have that party and the boss is at benihanas, and then they go back to the party and he can't remember witch Asian girl is his date, so he marks one with a marker so he remembers. I thought that was hilarious.

I hate it. It is not funny, it makes fun of people in a very cruel way. The only person I know who likes it is just like the people on the show - a little dim-witted but very cruel.
That's not to say you're like that, I don't know you. But you asked why people don't like it.

I like the American version but I think there is a British version too, which I've never seen. But yeah, it's good!

so awkward its funny, i loved the episode where the people in the office say prison sounds better and michael tries to change their mind by bringing in prison mike who stole, and robbed, and kidnapped the presidents daughter. and he never got caught too. (Jim: but you're in prison)
