I'd say you should try the Rosendahl Bend... I've been an Eagle Scout for a few years and it's come in handy before.

What kind of "rubbery" cording are you using? And how thick is it?

I have some info on gluing thicker rubbery cording together (spliced at an angle, and cleaned with alcohol first) with various things at my website**, as well as some crimps that work, etc. But if the cording is thinner, and you don't want to make a neat connection, you might try gathering the tails side by side then making a knot, or doing a surgeon's knot with a bit of glue (type might depend on what you're using, etc.)
