Yes.... revenge is sweet but incurably cancerous.

Vengence is sweet but served cold. I personally like chocolate and that usually is luke warm so I am not sure what you mean really? I think that an eye for an eye is man's ignorance, and that it does blind the world when they seek revenge. Lady Justice is blind with a set of scales right? and then the sword right? When the vengence hits and everything is out of balance she tears off those blind folds drops those scales and swings that double-edged sword and we call that war, and that is Fair.

No. Depending on the situation, sometimes I think an eye for an eye is more just than our current judicial system which often sees fit to set murderers, rapists & child molesters free...

The punishment should fit the crime. Why should someone who is cruel to others be allowed to get away with it? Castrate pedophiles. To the degree that they have hurt someone else, the criminal should be hurt. (Theft is very minor, it's only property. Crimes against people are the most heinous.)

I would never deliberately hurt someone. I would never attack someone who is innocent. But if someone hurts me (or someone I love) first, I will defend myself (them). If someone attacked my loved ones, I wouldn't wait for a court to decide his fate. I'd tear his throat out. That's my animal instinct. I am fiercely loyal & protective of those who are innocent (especially children, women & animals). I can be the most loving person in the world but I will not tolerate cruelty. That to me is the most unforgiveable thing. And must be punished.

I know I'm not very Christian in this thinking. I always had a problem with Jesus saying "Turn the other cheek." Because it's too hard to do. If someone hurts me, it's my instinct to fight back. When I see someone else being hurt, it's my instinct to help them. I can't sit back & watch evil being done. It makes me angry! It isn't fair! "Love your enemies, pray for your persecutors" uh yeah, ok. Good luck with that! I wouldn't have let myself be nailed to the cross by a bunch of ingrates & traitors & even then "forgive them, they know not what they do." But I'm not the son of God, just a flawed human with strong emotions & a sense of justice. Which too often, is not done in our so-called civilized society. Bad people get away with far too much.

Sometimes vengeance seems a better way. Vigilantes sometimes pick up where the law leaves off. Maybe that's why I love movies about superheroes. They go out & get the bad guys. The old-fashioned way. (Not reading them their rights & putting them in a cell & letting them go to court just to be given a light sentence & free in no time to go hurt people again), just pounding the snot out of them to give them a taste of their own medicine. I believe in the death penalty but in certain cases I think there should be a torture penalty. Death is too kind to someone who has destroyed an innocent person's life.

An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth...

Yeah I know, "Vengeance is mine saeth the Lord" but it's hard to be patient & wait for the afterlife. Plus, if you let someone live & they kill again, are you partially culpable for letting them go free? Aren't you a murderer in a sense? & if someone has to die why not make it the serial killer rather than another victim...? Which is more morally wrong...?

I am all for allowing you to go down to the prison and adopting a murderer. Your kids will love it when you bring yours home.

Absolutely!
Ours isn't to seek revenge, it's up to us to forgive.
