because Most of them are trying to get there lives straight and sorted out. A lot of African Americans have a hard time just getting buy and more and more are focusing on getting an education or trying to get a good job to pay bills just to get buy. So Marriage is just adds more stress because not only are you looking out for yourself your looking out for another or depended on one and if that one doesn't have a good job to support the both of you for things like food, water, clothing the essentials then your more likely to divorce that person or not get married in the first place because of that fact. Its hard for a black person in a white dominated country because we have such a history between white and black. Even though my mom is black and dad is white my mom still told me that when she was little it was hard for her growing up because she was black and living in a mostly white neighborhood but she survived got buy, got the education and got married and I love her for that. So not all African American adults are not married my mom and dad have been together for like 20 years they met when they were 13 which is really young lol. anyways just thought i should share that with you.

I can't believe some the answers that has been given. No money? No job? It's really sad that you think that. I think if you took a serious look at our history of marriage during slavery you would understand why. Just for the record, I've been married over ten years. My parents have been married for over 30 years. My husband parents have been married over 30 years, also.

The real question:

Why is more than 50% of white couples divorced?

Because some people DON'T GODDAMN WANT TO. Marriage is unnecessary, and has become very unappealing to a good many people. Therefore, they see no need to pursue it.
