I agree that the Americans were happier when he was captured, but to put Saddam to death, now it will be a war. Lets hope that it won't happen on American soil. Things don't look so good for the American people.

I think it was important for the Iraqi people and their new government to handle Saddam for what he has done. I'm sure the Kuwaiti government and people would have liked to have had a hand in getting rid of him as well.
I have to say personally I think it was too gentle and too quick.
Considering all that he did to so many it was too quick. There are so many that will suffer the rest of their lives for what he did. And those that remember what he did to his own people.
My husband is a disabled veteran from the first gulf war, he has a nueromuscular disease that limits his lung function. He wasn't expected to live through 1999. He isn't eligible for a lung transplant because the nerves that control your lungs are damaged as well. He was there with all the burning of oil, etc. I have to say I'm glad Saddam is gone. But really in so many ways it doesn't make my husband any less sick. It doesn't change that we live knowing the rest of his lungs could shut down. Even the Mayo clinic isn't able to do anything for my husband. Saddam's death can't change that.
Personally I do not believe his is finding himself surrounded by virgins and Allah, I believe he has just now begun to pay for his crimes and will do so for eternity and that is the only comfort I take in his death.

Some thought it would have been better to kill him in the field, and avoid the spectacle of a trial.
They were worried that it would drag on forever, causing dissent and trouble without a conclusion.
But now, we see that he had due process and a speedy execution. So the capture and trial were worth it.
Yes, the discipline of our soldiers in this situation was admirable. "Greetings from President Bush," they said politely when they found him. They must have been tempted to say something worse, but they didn't.

I think that soldiers are not who to judge his fate in life, his own laws did decide such fate.
