how do you know if you're emo?

I am not sure...cause everyone at school calls me that...since the things i have done this just past year...but i dont have black hair...i do listen to emo music...so please help me out

Well emo is short for emotional. However most people think it means you cut your self and you're always mad at everyone for "unknown" reasons but I don't think anyone's really emo. I actually think everyone(even guys) pms. I also think people over exaggerate and think low of people who aren't just like them so chances are they think you're uncool and beneath them but as long as you've got friends and family behind your back to support you I think it'll be ok for you. Also that doesn't mean you're gothic! omg you people all put together everything dark and depressing and say it's emo and having eyeliner on if you're a guy is weird but w/e and having your hair parted over one on the side is NOT emo. That's actually a pretty new fashion thing. And if you listen to sad or dark or depressing music doesn't mean you're emo either....everyone gets upset and everyone has reasons to. And one last thing writing poetry and crying doesn't mean you're emo either....it usually means you're writing about something sad in your life that makes you cry. Labels are stupid and if people at your school say that stuff tell them to suck it up you're you and that's no one else's problem so they can just deal.

If a lot of people think your emo than in a lot of people's opinion you are emo.
But if you don't cut, and feel sad/angry most of the time you most likely are not emo, and if you listen to more than just emo music than you are most likely not an emo. You just give off the emo vibe.
At least thats how it is in Cove, I don't know how it is at your place.

your basically emo once you've given up hope in the world...you don't have to be emo to listen to emo music but once you find yourself void of all color beside black gray or white and you cant find the energy to have hope in anything then yep...your EMO! by the way, all the idiots who said "if you cut yourself" are idiots cause you dont have to be into self mutilation to be emo.

Honestly, who cares what people think of you. Do you think your emo? If not, then you're not. Seriously, screw what other people say about you. You've got your own life to live and you can't spend your life worrying what other people think. At least being emo is better than being a chav. *shudder*

I think you high school kids are all idiots. When you get to college, IF you get to college, and you start to hang out with everyone in your school because there are no cliques and you grow the heck up, you'll also be saying, all those people in high school are idiots.
