OMG, someone else remembers H.R. Puffinstuff. Yes even though I was getting a little older in the 70's I remember watching with my younger brothers. Today's cartoons make parent's look like helpless baboons and the kids are ill mannered and violent.

Ok, here goes- Pre-Scrappy Scooby Doo, Flintstones, Jetsons, all the animated Rankin/Bass holiday specials (e.i.- Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reigndeer, Year Without a Santa Claus, Mad Monster Party, etc.), Heckle and Jeckle and all the 50/60's era cartoons that were in all likelihood originally shown in theatres, Josie and the Pussycats (because the theme kicked ***), Johnny Quest, Popeye, Caspar, and Lil' Lulu, and the New Three Stooges (because the Stooges themselves introduced the shorts). Those are my choices for the 70's. For me, the 80's were all about Battle of the Planets and Voltron.

Sigmond the Sea Monster, HR Puff N Stuff, Popeye, Johnny Socko, ZOOM, Jetsons, Flinstones, Banana Splits, Land of the Lost, Pink Panther and of course, School House Rock.
Other than cartoons: Leave it to Beaver, I Love Lucy and The Lucy Show, Carol Burnett show, Micky Mouse Club, Brady Bunch
Luckily Scooby is still very popular. My 6 year old is watching it right now and loves it. I know what you mean about the cartoons now. The grossest one is called The Meaty Boys or something like that,Ed, Ed, and Eddy, and the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy . All the characters are so ugly and they are so crude. Many of them have underlying sextual content.
The only one I like in this day in age is Spongbob. But really it is humor for adults more than kids! I have tried to get my daughter to watch Leave it to Beaver, because I love the family/moral values, but it just doesnt hold her interest compared to all the other crud out there.

A lot better cartoon than the crap they have now. I mean we have all the cheap Pokemon style Japanese cartoons, cat dog, ed edd and eddy, fairly odd parents, this stuff is garbage. Tom and Jerry, Flintstones, Jetsons, Scooby Doo, Bugs Bunny, Heman and the masters of the universe, GI Joe, D&D, those were good cartoons.
And I agree with the poster before me, the cartoons are ill mannered kids and stupid parents.

Scooby-Doo, Speed Buggy, etc. Yes you're right and Disney channel wasn't all about dating for 12 year olds either. It was action, adventure, (Mutual of Omaha's "Wild Kingdom") exploration, and enviromental activism (which meant recycling and picking up litter, not burning down ski lodges or spiking trees). No all-violence computer games and music like now. Not much evil in Pak Man as I recall? The "westerns" were gun violence, but it was simple good vs. bad, walked the bad path and you ended up with a rope necktie.

Bugs Bunny and his buddies before the censors got their hands on them. That was funny. The cartoons today are all about selling toys and most of them are more violent then anything Warner Bros. ever put out... I mean really... an anvil falling from the sky????? That is violent? Today's cartoons... solve your problems by kicking but.... yeah, no violence there.. just action toy figure sales!

I used to watch Dungeons & Dragons, Thundar the Barbarian, Scooby Doo...and I bunch of others. What I also miss were the public service announcements also like Time for Timer. The announcements on excercise, and healthy snakes. If you don;t remember who he was look up "time for timer" on youtube for a chuckle. It's one of those "Ohhh yaaaa, I remember him" things. : )
