Because the US military still hasn't secured a stable position in Iraq. Will it ever? Maybe, but not any time soon.

Why does the US want to secure a position? To secure the oil and have a position against Iran, Syria and most of the major middle east nations. It's all politics. The whole "war on terror" nonsense is a story that most 5 year olds wouldn't buy into. It's all greed and it's being fueled by the ignorance of the public and the hardheadedness/pride of the president.

In Afghanistan because the Taliban hasn't been completely wiped out and Osama is still at large.
In Iraq because the U.N. STILL isn't willing to step up and do what is right. Face it, had the U.N. upheld the Cease-Fire agreement in the first place, we as a nation/coalition wouldn't be there now. If Syria and Iran would stop trying to butt in and make the power play for the oil, we could probably stand a better chance of "settling" the situation and bring our troops home.

We are not supposed to be at war. This is supposed to be post war. Remember Bush on the aircraft carrier saying it was over and we won. Now we are sucked into this war mentality when we should be doing reconstruction work but we made this horrible mistake of thinking we could force democracy on a people who were not ready.

Because we declared war on terrorism, not a country. We will be at war until our gov't (including congress) feels we are free to back up.

Because if we leave these people without a secure way of governing themselves properly after a dictator was in charge, it would be a cruel thing to do, and we would have wasted our time in the first place. Another dictatorship would likely come in and take them over. There are many good reasons to still be there. There is rebuilding to do in many ways.

Because Bush is going to continue the war until his time in office is up. Plain and simple.
