Words stick with a person much longer than lets say a punch (an action). You can't define the word or give it a name, but you can say someone punched me. When you say someone punched me people say "are you okay?" If you say someone called me an "ignorant nobody" people say "get over it" or "who cares." The punch only hurts for a few seconds and you get over the pain, but the words stick with you because you can't release that pain, you don't know what to call it. A lot of mental illnesses are due to verbal abuse being pent up over years and not being expressed. It's sad how hurtful people can be to each other.

While growing up my parents always told me that sticks and stone may break my bones but words will never hurt me.. I have found in my lifetime that this statement is untrue... I would rather get hit with a stone. The words that people say to you can emotionally scar you for life. You can carry what someone has said to you for a lifetime. It can determine who you are and who you turn out to be in life. Words can change your destiny in life. So remember to always speak kind words because words can be razor sharp. Action of someone can be gentle but normally action of words can either hurt you or heal you.
