When I was a kid, I thought it was because of being off from school, the excitement of gifts, parties, food, cookies, and candy. Now that I am an adult, I find it stressful and depressing and full of pressure. I don't think that it is the best as much as it is hyped up.

I do think Chri-mi-time is the best time of the year! I've got nothin' but fond memories of Christmas. I don't think it is just celebrating consumerism. I mean purchasing and consuming goods is a part of how we celebrate Christmas but there's more to Christmas. At least I believe there is more to Christmas.

Nope, just celebrating consumerism. Late summer/early fall are much better times anyway.

It depends on who is celebrating it... for instance if its you you may have a happy family with good money and you can buy anything for Christmas....but what about the poor people
OK i know the only thing that matters is your family but what if you DON'T have one you're going to have an unmerry Christmas
and on top of that you see on the streets and in TV people being happy with their toys AND their families
so i would say...NO!!! its a time to remember your sufferings and all. It may be happy for some people but for others is just sufering.

Well for a lot of people it is. Depends on who you are. The reason why I think Christmas is the best time of the year is because Christmas Day is my birthday.

Sad that they got to you and make you feel that way. For me and my family and friends it is the best time of year. We celebrate with music, parties, dinners, sharing and giving and lots of charity. Yes we all exchange gifts.....but we do that for birthdays and anniversaries too. But Christmas is far more than that! Far more!
Have a great 2007!!!

Too many people are influenced by the "Norman Rockwell" image of the perfect family opening Christmas gifts. No one but a FOOL believes the commercials and buys expensive gifts they cannot afford, trying to create the perfect Christmas image.
The season is what you make of it, not what others want you to make of it.

Yes, many ppl still do try to be nicer around Christmas. Regarding commercialism, I find that I now give gifts only when I really want to-- to family & friends. Trying to give gifts to ppl at work is a thankless task. They either get uncomfortable or are ungrateful. One guy (many Christmases ago) had the gall to say that he didn't like the gift. Well, he pretty much killed the gift giving at work (and saved me lots of $).
