Good noticing! If Slughorn often calls Ron the wrong name then it is probably not a typo, but still, the author's choice of name to use was maybe accidental...

No.
Jk Rowling HERSELF had said that she made Slughorn call Ron Rupert as a tribute to the actor. Slughorn always forgets Ron's name and each time he is called a different name and Rupert was chosen as one of them.
Pinwheelbandit is wrong. The movies came a long time after even the first book was published. And Ron is called Rupert only in the sixth book. JK Rowling may have had all the books planned and practically written way before the movies came out but she sometimes makes some slight changes. Like, Malfoy was planned to be called "Pungen" first.

Slughorn often called people the wrong name if he didn't feel it important to remeber them. I think this is just a way that J.K. recognized the actor who plays Ron in the movies. She did have quite a bit planned before she wrote all the books, but I'm sure she didn't have every name that Slughorn call's Ron for book 6 planned. It's in her own way for little pun in book 6 that was deff. intended.

JK Rowling had all the books planned and practically written way before the movies came out, so she had no way who would play Ron or if the books would even be successful. That makes me think that she meant 'Rupert" to show that Slughorn is just forgetting Ron's name and picks another "R" name.

It wasn't a typo it was just to show how Slughorn forgets Ron's name since he is a nobody in his eyes compared to Harry.

:( I really understand you. :) I cried too when I first read books 6 and 7, and I still cry when I reread them. So, to answer your questions: 1. It's a tough question. Really. I belive Hermione is my favourite character, because , she is very smart, just, a really good friend for Ron and Harry, she always helps them, even if she disagrees and because I think it is rather difficult to be the only girl between two boys . :D 2. Bellatrix is my least favourite character because she murdered her own brother! I mean, it is revolting! ...And she laughed after that.... 3. Frankly, I miss everyone that died...specially Fred Weasley , Tonks and Lupin , Hedwig ( she didn't deserve to die), Sirius, Dumbledore obviously, even Snape, because in the end he prove that he was good, Colin Creevey, because he was so young, and the rest of other 50 persons who died in the Battle of Hogwarts. R.I.P. all :( As a personal oppinion, I think that J.K. Rowling was a bit cruel with the last books ( 5,6,7) ...

It was simply a name with the letter 'R'; a Arthur Levine (US publisher) said shortly after HBP came out, it was yet another time Slughorn called Ron the wrong name (he calls him Ralph in the chapter 'Birthday Surprises).

either way it is funny .. also, rupert is a common name in britain (i think).. i mean i remember specifically when i read Roald Dahl's book Matilda there was a kid named rupert.. as is rupert everett (the cute gay actor from My Best Friend's Wedding). and i must admit, it would be a cute twist for jk rowling to pay "tribute" to the actor playing ron. :)
