The difference lies in the fact that you can pick your friends, but not your family.

Friends don't contain the blood but family contains the blood from you. No matter what, family is the best cos family will always support no matter what happens to you. But, friends are a different case. Some will help u during a crisis while some leaves you especially you have treated them well.

you are friends because you want to be, not because you have to. If you would know ( and be friends with) your sibling, even if they weren't, then they are your friend. Your family is an outlet of pressure from your friends, while your friend is an outlet of your family. Sometimes your friend knows more about your 'at school/work situations' than your family does. You can't always talk to your mom about that mean boss/teacher she doesn't know, and it will be less frustrating when you ask advice. Sometimes you become so close to your friends that they become your family, but rarely does your family become your friend. It's really just a matter of insight, and compatibility with who you are.

family is for the most part blood friends aren't. ....that's not to say that either is better or worse than the other. I have some family that I value less than some of my friends, the difference or common thread that they share is that although I will always love my family that doesn't mean that I have to like them or what they do

I think friends can be the same as family.
My wise Grandmother told me that there are "relatives", and then there is "family"...
You may not always care to see relatives, but FAMILY is different. Some friends are as close as family.

there is no difference. really, think about it. a family is by your side when you need them. a friend will always listen. that is, good friends and family. same with bad friends and family. the only thing different is you can marry your friends and you have different last names (unless youy get married)

Most of the time friends will accept you for who you are and won't judge you. Family, on the other hand, may always be there for you, but might also be judgmental.

You can have sex with friends and have a good healthy baby, but you can't have sex with family. Family is also blood and friends are people you can have sex with and have fun doing things with them

Sometimes you tell your friends such things that you would never tell your family because you think your family would never understand.
