I know it can't be becuz of my video card becuz we bought a new one last night. My games and expansions are brand new, too. My computer is 2 years old. My computer is kinda slow from my sister downloading games, tons on music, and all sorts of spyware and ad-aware.

The Sims 2 loads and I can build houses but it won't let me play the game. It won't let me play an exsisting family or create a new one. Also, some objects like trees, wallpaper, and furnature appear white with words on it such as "willowtree". If I try creating or playing a family, the game freezes and a message comes up saying that it crashed. Why does it do this?

Could it be becuz I need to disable some kind of program running on my computer?

Is it becuz my computer is slow?(If so, how can I fix it?)

A) and I can't stress this enough. Disable any anti-virus software before playing the game. It'll think that the game is trying to hijack the system.
B) Check the amount of RAM that's in the computer. If you don't have enough, go to TigerDirect, Newegg, or someplace like that and get more.
C) Make sure you have DirectX9.0c or higher installed on the computer.

Make sure that you're computer can handle the Sims 2. Read the requirements on the box, and see if your computer has the minimum requirements. I recommend that you at least exceed the recommended requirements.

Video cards shouldn't be a problem since the Sims doesn't require a high end graphic card.

Things you can try to see if it will work:

1. Turn off any programs that you're not using.
2. Get rid of the adware or spyware. Those are things that you shouldn't have on your computer in the first place.
3. Can I assume that your sister is using P2P to download music? Hate to tell you this, but in order to use P2P (like Kazaa), it installs a nasty program on your computer to keep track of the sites that you're visiting so that it can aim ads directly at you. All those P2P programs are probably slowing down your computer.
4. Delete any games that you're not playing anymore to free up some hard drive space.
5. Use the disk defragmenter to try to speed it up.

Reinstall the game. It's a pain, but it may work :)
