No the use of English is just traditional. The founding fathers that put in place the organs of state and government were of English origin hence the constitution etc is in English and most/all of civil life is in English but there is no law to mean it has to stay that way. We may have a Spanish speakingmajor or something somewhere soon and then things could just naturally develop.

We do not have an official language. Some states have decided that English is the "preferred" language or some other bull, that that doesn't really matter.

No, there is currently no offiical language for America. Interesting, in that almost all countries do have one.
There is a bill before the house related to immigration that sets up English as the national language, but that bill is not expected to pass.

no there is no official languge in the US. A few cities have passed that law, but I am not sure that any State has passed it. A few havve tried.
