we got an under the sink tank type filter for about $100 at home depot--takes out everything--doesn't impede the faucet flow. Called Star Water systems--installs super easy & is about the size of a scuba tank. Way worth it!

Filters trap particles and some chemicals in water. So it depends on what kinds of particles you need to remove: sand, rust, etc, or chemicals such as chlorine, or even microrganisms such as Giardia lamblia cysts.
Spun polyester filters are fairly common filter materials which will remove the larger solid particles. You can start with 10 micron size filters, or go to 5 or even 1 micron size filters (1 micron is 1 millionth of a meter. A human hair is about 60 to 100 microns in diameter.) The best filters include activated charcoal which will capture and reduce cysts as well as disolved chlorine in the water.
A single-stage filter has only 1 filter element, usually for sediment and sand. You can upgrade to a charcoal-based filter. A better filter is a dual-stage design with 2 separate filter chambers.
See the link to GE's home water filtration products for more information.
The very best water filter is a reverse-osmosis filter which can remove solids, chemicals, cysts as well as minerals which give the water an off-taste.

i put a Pur faucet mount in our house and am very happy with it. later when we remodeled the kitchen i got a chrome one to go with the new sink and faucet. it was defective, so i contacted their customer service dept., that is good, too. they sent me a new replacement right away. i didn't have to send the old one back and wait either. they told me how to swap parts from the old one to the new (defective)one so that i could use it until the replacement arrived. and i was able to keep the fixed one. in the seven years that i've had them i gotten one defective filter, the o ring was pinched, likely by the retailers handling of it. i again contacted Pur and they sent me two new ones to replace it. as you can see, i can't say enough about how well they treat the customer. it is companies like this that deserve our business. hope that you will consider buying your filter from them, too. and, no, i do not work for them! heehee.

specific you probably did the ultimate situation. Bottled water is a scam, certainly faucet water is held to plenty extra strict federal regulations. learn have shown that maximum bottled water is faucet water besides with a extensive spike in value. I continuously tell people this, think of gas, anybody is complaining relating to the fee going up yet once you think of approximately it bottled water is what $a million a quart if not extra that's resembling over $4 a gallon. besides back on your question yeah, a pur filter out ought to filter out each and every of the lead and different impurities out of your piping.
