Not unusual, but unfortunate. You're moving from the most beautiful state in the country to a state most people can't point out on a map. If you're like most people who move out of Cali, you'll be back.

Good luck, though!

Unusual? No, not at all. People move out of cali all the time. I moved from Northern Cali to North Carolina. Not saying that was a good choice, because 9 years later I'm back on the west coast in Portland. But no, it's not unusual. Just be sure to check out the area you're moving before you move to see if you feel good vibes.

Do it. I moved from SoCal last year to Missouri. Found a ton of other people here from Riverside, like myself.
EVERYone of us is happier and better off.

Just be sure you bring money to buy winter jackets and sweaters and nice thick blankets for those cold winters. I not sure how well you know US history but it gets really cold south and west of the great lakes.

I moved from LA to Detroit because I wanted to work in the Auto Industry.
In hind sight....I wish I hadn't. The midwest is a sucky dump.
If your family is there, it is cool,b ut otherwise, think twice about doing it.
