That's stupid. I'm Chinese and I suck at learning Chinese.
I once had an Asian girl tell me that the Czech Republic was in South America. I've even overheard an Asian girl say to her friend that she didn't know governors had to be voted into office. We're people just like everyone else, We have the ability to be smart, and we have the ability to be ignorant.

We are brought up to treasure knowledge and perform as well as we can academically. Back in high school my friends made the same assumption about me. Even the racist people there grudgingly accepted that a Chinese person was smart(sometimes smarter).

A good and a bad question:
99.99% no, its a figment that anyone person or ethnicity has that potential over another.
It raises greater debate on the continued beliefs in a superior minority and inferior minority.
Where Asians are thought better than other minorities and Blacks/Hispanics thought less than other minorities.
These stereotypes are just that... stereotypes, any individual of any ethnicity is able to achieve what the individual strives to achieve.

Stop with the generalizations already people.
And to normobrian: You call the fastest growing economy and rate of modernization "living in the 19th century"? I think your brain's still living in the 15th century with your racist ignorant beliefs and blatant lack of intelligence. While our outdated buildings and subway systems keep falling apart, they're building new up-to-date ones everyday.

Other than the racism, the question lacks an awareness of W. China where the vast majority of the people live.

Asian cultures do not offer their children the option of losing. They study hard for what they achieve. They are diligent.
