I was just reading an article about Taye Diggs and his wife Idina Menzel receving threatening letters about their marriage in 2004. He is African-American and she is Jewish-American (I believe), and the letters were threatening bodily harm against him because they are in an "interracial" marriage. That word really bugs me, I don't know why, probably because it really sounds like such a label, when marriage is supposed to be about love and building a future and family, regardless of your heritage or social background, or race. Anyway, I was just wondering what peoples opinions are about these types of threats, and if people think it is still prevelant in the US? What do you all think about this situation? Personally it makes me sick that someone would send such a letter to anyone, famous or not, its just disgusting and bigotry at its worst, not to mention really none of their business.

Unbelievably, yes, there are still ignorant people in the world, and in the United States. As long as children are being raised to believe that the races should be separate, it will continue. Come to the south and see for yourself how alive and well racism is.

Yes, it is unfortunately true. As a person who interracially dates, I know these types of things still go on. I often have had people scream nasty things at me when I am out with prior boyfriends. I have friends who will not interracially date because they think it is wrong (though they cannot tell me why if I ask and often do not want to discuss it.) I personally think some people who will not interracial date would if American society did not stigmatize it.
I am from England and interracial dating is a none issue there and I still do not completely understand why it is an issue here in America. I really think that an individual is the master of their lives and should do as they feel....who cares what other people feel!!!??

It's so sad and so disgusting that they should have to live with threats because they love each other. Some people have such low self-esteem that they think that if someone of their race dates interracially, it's a direct insult to them. Those people need to grow up and stop intefering!

Unfortunately there are still a lot of racist people in the world. I think that....nay, I pray that that archaic mindset dies out sometime soon. The world is a much smaller place these days, way to small for idiotic attitudes like that. We have to learn to live together in spite of our differences. I think inter-racial relationships is the first step toward erasing racial lines.

Sadly the ans is yes.
My husband is a black African man and I am a white American woman. We get stares and snide remarks all the time. But we also get smiles and nods of approval. So I hope and pray it is getting better. Now days we have it better then others did just twenty years ago.

I have found that in my endeavors with interracial dating, I am a white male and have dated two African American women(immigrants from Africa) Ethiopia and Gambia to be exact. That I got a lot of flak from the black community but very little from the white community...weird huh. My parents didn't even care (both in their 60's) as long as we were happy.

it's odd that some of the most racist are bible thumping pundits but yet if they really believed thier bible they would understand that we were all from same parents, and no need for "race card"
but since the bible is a collection of tales and mythology, largely borrowed from other cultures, we see that it's more about culture than about race or color
think of how the American Natives were amazed at a loving Jesus that didn't respect thier "Great Spirit" and had to kill them or remove them by murder and corner them like animals in the name of Christianity and sovereignty.
I am in one myself, but don't look at it this way
it's more about two very different people who see themselves in each other and wish to reproduce and make more copies of themselves in the best possible way to guarantee this, ruled by our hormones and DNA, genes and subconsciences

yes. if everyone were to mix up an become one race, some people see things wrong with that and some people see things right with that. some people prefer there being different kinds of races an they are better with their own uniqueness. there wouldn't be a AKC if all dogs bred with each other an all became mutts. i prefer people being unique in their own racial differences. if everyone looked the same it would be boring

Do you have a life? It seams like every time you learn something that you didnt' know, or read something that interests your simple, frivolous mind, you run on here and ask total strangers what we think about it.
GET SOME FRIENDS!
By the way, one of your previous questions about having sex with animals makes me ill. you are obviously insane and only care about yourself

attempting to fathom the character of human beings is unfathomable. anyplace there is solid evil provides its self. So we are able to consistently have a society of the righteous and the unrighteous. training can in simple terms take us as much as now. till we are able to stay a existence free of malice, prejudice, hate, etc., we are able to consistently be yearning for love and justice.
