Supposedly they are in the studio now, however, they are unsure as to which direction they want to go.
They are either going to release a follow up to American Idiot, an album with sounds that they have never explored before or just a straight up punk album.
I kinda hope they do all three.

They have been writing songs for a long time and have a ton written, but they have yet to start recording.

I'm not sure but they just recently workd with U2 on a song. Guess that's all you can hear from them now.
