It isn't, trust me. It's all a work of fiction.

When I read the book I thought exactly the same however I have since seen a documentry about it that sort of put a downer on most of the ideas. It's quite possible for there to be heirs of jesus (If he existed of course). You'll just never know, if people wanted to cover it up it would have been done over a thousand years ago!

No you are not crazy, confused, but not a nut case. Dan Brown may have written his book for ratings, he may have done it for knowledge, or maybe it out from confusion. The best answers for your question will come from knowledge. Christianity has far too many hidden skeletons in its closet. From their choices of gospel, to their decisions on chosen religious holidays. Dan Brown, as I believe only wanted to sell a book, but also open a mind to potential possibility. Any true Cristian will tell you it is all falsified, because their sanction informed a shallow minded fool that Dan Brown was attacking the church. He was not. He is an intelligent man, who did years of research, more studies than you, I and anyone else commenting. The research he did would have caused an execution in the name of the church a few years back. I am not saying all he wrote was true, but it is worthy of consideration. Christianity is not the great power that its followers believe it to be. There has been too much pain, bloodshed and discrimination in this religions past to be that true chosen way of a God as that religion describes it to be.

Without doubt the woman is Mary Magdalen. But what about the spare hand holding a knife. That is even stranger.
