I am 37 weeks. I was in the hospital christmas eve with pressure in my vagina and having contractions. I am still having the pressure in my vagina every now and then. I was dilated a finger tip when I went in. I was just wondering I have had to pee a lot today but it is a little bit at a time. How would I know if my water might have broke? This is my first pregnancy and dont really know. Thank you for your help

Sometimes it can be very tricky for even us nurses to tell. Water can "break" with a big gush which continues to pour out of you. Or you can have a "leak", like when you stick a pin in a water balloon, in which case you will have a very slow, constant trickle that increases when you cough or sneeze. The only way to know for sure is to go to the hospital and have the water tested with Nitrazine paper.

With my first son my water did not break all at once rather it trickled. I went to the doctor to get checked and they confirmed I was in labor. My second son, my water didn't break and the doctor had to break it during labor. My third son, the water broke and gushed out when I had a contraction. So it can differ. If you have concerns then consult your doctor. But if it was trickling then you wouldn't be able to stop it like you would if you were peeing. Also the pressure you may be feeling is the baby dropping into position... With my third son I felt so much pressure that it was difficult to walk.

When your water breaks it will be either a big gush or a slow and steady trickle.
My first two broke while I was sleeping and came in a huge gush and my 3rd I had noticed some dripping constantly and had to wear a pad. I had been so sick of going to the hospital and being sent home that I let it be from Satuday night until wednesday morning when I called my dr. who told me to go to the OB ward immediately. I had waited WAY too long and they had to give antibiotics through an IV before baby was born because of risk of infection. So if you feel a constant drip it's best to call your dr.

I have 2 kids and both by c section. But when your water breaks you know trust me. It is like your body is telling you something even if you did not feel the water. It is different for everyone. But call the Doc in the Am and get an appointment to be sure.

Go to the hospital that is what my water breaking was like when I had my son a year ago. If you feel like you are having contractions and you think your water is leaking it would be better to go the hospital and get checked.

My water broke with all three kids, and you feel like you're peeing your pants but can't stop it. It's a significant amount of fluid, and you can't shut it off like you can when you pee.
