Nothing in Key West is cheap, if you can even find a place there. This is high season in the keys & most places have already been
booked for the season. My advise is to call a real estate or
rental agent & see what is available.

Key West, cheap? Those words don't even belong in the same sentence. As the person indicated above you would be lucky to get a place, let alone cheap.
Advice, for cheap look at another part of Florida or another state.

shacks and burned downed places are expensive there. key west is not very big, but PERHAPS the real estate on the outskirts of the town would be more affordable than downtown. try the classifieds. http://keysnews.com/classifieds/ also, think about a job?
my advice--go down for a visit, stop in a local bar and ask around. the locals are very friendly. we did that when trying to get advice on getting married there.
