Lamb(CSPAN) said in an interview he was "very disappointed" by Pelosi's decision. He said he tried unsuccessfully to change the policy when Republicans gained control of the House in 1995 and thought this would be another good opportunity because Pelosi has stressed that the incoming Congress would be the most open and ethical in history.

And this: Under the current arrangement, the House cameras are solely operated under the discretion of the speaker, CSPAN Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brian Lamb told CNN.
CSPAN also was unable to convince the GOP of the same request in 1995. "Every chance you get you have to ask...we want more access," Lamb told CNN.

And this from Thehill.com:In a Dec. 14 letter, C-SPAN CEO and Chairman Brian Lamb asked Pelosi to roll back the three-decade old practice that put the House Speaker in charge of the cameras. C-SPAN and the House reached the current agreement in 1979 when cameras were first introduced to the chamber. He wrote that he sought a similar agreement in 1994 when Republicans captured control of the House, but he did not get it.

You may believe this is indeed a first amendment issue but the Republicans didn't grant CSPAN full access either...this is a 28 yr old practice.

My initial reaction is to say that she knows she can;t keep up her act as a moderate teamplayer for that long, pretty soon her natural instincts as a megamaniacal socialist will emerge.

But the truth is that she probably wants to shelter the general public from the arcane ineptitude that occurs in the capital building. Lawmaking is like sausage making... you're better off being happy with the finished product and not worry about how it gets made.

In the past (with both Republican and Democratic leadership), they haven't wanted the cameras to show that the chamber is mostly empty most of the time.

The same reason Hastert did it when he was Speaker - they (the bozos in Congress) don't want us to see what's really going on.
