Many of them get heartburn from greasy foods, though some can eat anything. Some have to watch their salt intake to keep their blood pressure within normal limits. Some avoid sausage and pepperoni and other cured meats because these products contain sodium nitrate, which can cause migraine headaches and is associated with some kinds of cancer. These cured meats are actually bad for anyone to eat in large amounts or often.

Hey darl.
It is because of the meat being processed and this increases the risk of a bacteria called Listeria. Listeria has been directly related to miscarrage and still birth. Listeria is also found in higher concentration in food that has been heated/cooked then refridgerated so its ideal to avoid these foods to. Other foods to avoid are soft cheeses, deep sea fish due to risk of mecery and to make sure any raw meat is well cooked and prepared. It is up to you what you eat as these are only recommendations. I am currently 16+5 weeks pregnant and to me for 9 months the risk isn't worth it.
Cheers darl hope that helps.

I didn't know they couldn't. I've eaten it with all 4 of my pregnancies and I have 5 wonderful, healthy and beautiful children. Are they saying they can't eat it because it can potentially cause heartburn?

You can, unless you have high blood pressure or stomach problems. These foods are high in saturated fat and sodium. But if you're healthy, then an occasional pizza with these toppings is ok. Just don't eat the whole pizza.

I hope they are not a no-no for pregnancy!
Deli meats because of listeria, but I did not think sausage and peperoni were off limits as well.

They can. Just make sure it is properly cooked.
Keep some antacids handy though, incase the pepperoni causes heartburn :)
