Hey there Jo-jo the power coming into your place is 110 volts. The light fixture is wired with 110 volts and the bulb you have in the fixture will be marked on it on the end. Usually your light bulb will be 100 watts or 60 watts. Often the light fixture has a sticker in it which says what size of bulb to use in that particular fixture. If it calls for a 60 watt bulb do not use anything higher like a 100 or this could put too much load on the fixture wiring and could cause a fire. Your stove (if electric) is usually 220 volts. These are North America specs. Good luck!

Normal voltage for light fixtures in the US is 120V. I think you need to know the maximum Wattage of the bulb for that fixture. 60 watts is the usual maximum wattage for most light fixtures. That rating is based on the use of an incandescent bulb and the amount of heat given off by that bulb. If you are using the "spiral" fluorescent bulbs which do not get as hot as an incandescent bulb you can go a little higher in the wattage usage but there is no need because you get much more light (candle power) from the fluorescent bulbs. A 15 watt fluorescent bulb gives off the approximate same light as a 60 watt incandescent bulb

by code for as far back as i can remember it is 120 volts nominal for residential lighting. as far as what wattage you are looking at for a bulb replacement look on the top of the bulb for the wattage, if not there unscrew the light bulb and look at the base by the glass on the metal sometimes has a stamp. most light fixtures have a sticker that tells you the maximum watts for lamps.
