I bought my kids the nintendo wii and the playstation 3 for Christmas. They have the xBox 360 at their dad's house. We also have the PSP, and Nintendo DS lite. (i'm not going to mention that we've had every gaming system since gaming was invented that might tell you how old we are...lol) So I consider our family kinda the "in the trenches reviewer" As a lot of people have already said. There is no better... only different. The key is which one is best for you. But how do you know which is best for you?
Questions to ask your self. How much can you spend? What is the age of gamer? Online play? Type of games loved? Will you use the system to watch movies? Do you have a HD TV? Are you computer savy? Is portablity important?
The nintendo Wii is a very small compact system that can easily be place in a small back pack and transported to a friends house. You do not have to have HD tv because graphics is not it's claim to fame. The claim to fame for this system is the awesome motion detecting controllers. These are great fun!! If you want to get moving and stay smiling this is the system for you. The kids and I had a blast with this feature. My son broke into a sweat doing the boxing game that comes with the console. The cost of this system is reasonable at 250. Worth every penny. This is a simple game so great for the less technically savy and great for younger children. This is a gaming system the whole family can enjoy.
The PS3 and Xbox 360 are similar in being graphic powerhouses but only if you have a HD tv to go with it. Cost are also close as the Xbox price tag is 500 bucks and the PS3 (60 gb) is 600. The hundred buck difference can be made up with the WIFI connectivity that PS3 has to add this feature to xbox costs about 99 bucks. So that makes the cost even. If you dont care about connecting to the internet through a wireless connection then pay 100 dollars less for xbox 360. The clincher for us is we are not only big gamers but we are big movie watchers. The PS3 has the new blu ray DVD technology. A blu ray DVD player at best buy cost about 700 dollars. So for my family the PS3 was the best choice. We got the most bang for our buck since all of these things were important to us. 1. we love great HD graphics for our games 2. we love the wireless connectivity to download updates, games, and play others online. 3. we love to watch great HD movies on the bluRay player.

All in all Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are all great companies. It's your job to figure out what your needs and wants are then prioritize in order of importance and that will make your choice. If you are as fortuant as my kids the Wii and the choice of one of the graphic kings would be the best of both worlds.

Xbox 360, my brother has a ps3 and the stupid thing keeps overheating after only 15 minutes of play. As for the nintendo wii, i like it, but a lot of times the wireless receiving between the console and remote isn't accurate. For example, your swordfighting, attempt to swing, but it wasn't perfect and the console didn't pick up the move. Really frustrating, but otherwise a good system. I own a 360 though, and no problems, excellent graphics, and the BEST game. (I own Geqars of War, Call of Duty 3, and Rainbow 6 Vegas :))

Just based on hardware the PS3 is way better. It has a cell proceser witch is better a processing multiple commands, which means graphics will look pretty everywhere, not just the character. The PS3 and 360 are tied with RAM. The ps3 has 8 USB ports (lot's of accessories) and it has a motion sensor on the controller. Also the controller has trigger like buttons that are pressure sensitive. The PS3 uses blu-ray technology which allows more storage in disks and higher definition. The 360 might be the worst system though, it doesn't have a motion sensor, which means it has limited gameplay.
