It depends on the year, condition, and what it's made of.
In 1943, pennies were made of steel, to reserve copper for war material. By mistake, some copper ones were made. These rare copper 1943 pennies are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Chances are, though, is you simply have a regular copper penny from the 40s (besides '43) chances are it's not worth more than a dime.

hi!! as you can tell from the link I sent you they only have value if they are in the very best of condition. you could get a Lincoln cent book, they are inexpensive and start a collection. it can be fun and rewarding. have fun
