It depends on the year, condition, and what it's made of.
In 1943, pennies were made of steel, to reserve copper for war material. By mistake, some copper ones were made. These rare copper 1943 pennies are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Chances are, though, is you simply have a regular copper penny from the 40s (besides '43) chances are it's not worth more than a dime.

Usually about .05 to .50 depends on the rarity and the condition. It may be worth 1.00 if it is a steel one from 1943.

Well, if it's a steel penny from 1944 it's worth alot. if it's a copper penny from 1943, it's worth alot. other than that, they are only face value.

Up to a nickel, if it's really rare more.
But a standard penny isn't worth much.

It depends on the exact date, where the coin was minted and what condition it is in. For a general introduction to coin collecting go to:

All depends on what year. The steel ones are more valuable.
