Finding the exact motorcycle your Grandfather owned may take some time and patience but it can be done. If you have any documents with the serial number, plus some geographical information (where was it last sold and to whom?) you can do some research and possibly locate it. Services like carfax.com and local motor vehicle departments may be of some help, but remember that many of these places also have policies that protect the current owner's privacy.

In your favor is the fact that old Indians are relatively rare and it's not like you're trying to find a Honda 750 or Harley Softail of which there are hundreds of thousands out there.

Last of all, try some Indian owner websites or forums such as forums.delphiforums.com. Also you could try posting a wanted ad in Hemming Motor News, Cycle Trader or other magazine. Also try Kiwi, an Indian aftermarket parts supplier. They may know more.
