I don't know a way without hurting the person's feelings. If you believe a friend is clinging too much, try spending less time w/her but try to do it in a way that isn't overtly mean.

Does she have any good qualities? If so, then you may not want to cut her out entirely. You could always try telling her when she calls or wants to get together that you're busy. If you do that a few times, she may back off.

I know how you feel exactly! There's this one girl in my class that pops out of now where and buggs the hell out of me. What I do is that whenever she pops up I wait a few minutes for her to go away if she doesn't, then I ask her with a forceful voice, "What are YOU doing here!?" And then she gets the picture that I don't want her with me and she goes away.

Tell her the truth, that you need a little bit more space than she's giving you. If she's really your friend she should understand.

i think you should talk to that friend. tell them that you need your space. clingons are really annoying. hopefully they will understand and leave you alone. find that person another group of friends to hang out with.
