The officer said that I didn't come to a complete stop at the light before I turned right (on red).

Is it worth it fighting it in court? What kind of reasons can I give to ensure dismissal of case?

Well, you are supposed to stop first at a red light even if you are turning right. But, it's your word against the officer's word. You could lie and say that you did stop, that it was only for a second but that you were completely stopped for that one second. But other than that I don't think there is a way to have it dismissed but if this is your first ticket you can go to a class and have any points that you get taken off your license.

It's not worth it to fight it especially if the ticket is not that much. Whether a person agrees with it or not, it is the law to completely stop at a red light (or a stop sign for that matter) before turning. It really astounds me with some of the ignorant comments made on questions like these. "I hate cops", "Shouldn't they be chasing after rapists". Stuff like that is so disingenous and hateful that it's pathetic. I won't address any more of these ignorant statements but I will ask you something. How would you feel if YOU were coming up to that intersection on the cross traffic side and you ran into someone who did a "rolling stop"? I'm not saying that it will happen or that you wouldn't hit someone who actually did stop but the fact that someone who DOES NOT fully stop is more apt to not fully look before going. Think of the consequences of your actions. It's only a couple extra seconds. Take care.

None, most people do this, a red light when making a right turn is the same as a stop sign you must come to a full stop before proceeding. Take your chances that the officer won't show up in court and use good driving sense.

You'd lose if you decide to contest the ticket. The stop sign means exactly what it says--a full stop.

Years ago I received a ticket for failing to come to a complete stop on my motorcycle. The cop said I didn't come to a complete stop although I countered that I did because I balanced the Harley.

He said, "I watched you; your foot didn't touch the pavement and you didn't balance it perfectly either."

Back then the cost was $35; not sure what your ticket will cost, but there is no such thing as a "rolling stop."

Sorry, a "rolling stop" means you didn't come to a complete stop, and it applies to red lights just as it does stop signs. You might try to fight, but you don't seem to have a chance and it would be cheaper to just pay the ticket.

i think you have to stop a solid stop for 3 seconds before moving on a red light.

Get a lawyer to 'fix' your ticket as a non moving violation. Double the price of the ticket and lawyer fee.

Or go to court and hope the cop won't show up. If he doesnt show up, the judge as to rule in your favor.

You will lose in court...... the fact is you didnt come to a complete stop. Just pay the ticket and chalk it up as a learning experience. The police got me with that one before myself. So now I make sure to come to a complete stop every time.

not really its actually quite common for officers to give citations for that its pretty dumb but the way the decide whether or not you stopped is by seeing if your head goes backwards because its an automatic reflex when you completely stop. So in otherwards it would probably just be a waste of time to fight it.

Tell them you are an idiot and think that rolling through a red light at 40 mph is the same thing as stopping. They might think you are totally nuts and let you off. Or you could tell them that the car behind you was going to rear-end you if you didn't get the hell out of there. Or you could tell them there was a little old lady crossing the street a block away and you wanted to get there before she made the sidewalk.

I like to come to a dead stop at red lights and stop signs so I can watch to moron behind me throw a ratfit and pound their steering wheel so hard their hubcaps fall off.

I'd pay the fine your pretty much pooched. Since in most places it says you have to come to a complete stop, before turning right on a red.
