It's mostly in the calves. I am short and weigh a lot but have always had good hops because of my muscular calves. If you have access to a gym, do calf workouts. Also, the shoes with the platform at the front so you're pretty much walking around using the front of your foot are awesome. Stretch your toes downward right now, do you feel it in your calves? That's what those shoes do. Go for walks or light jogs in them and they will build your calves. You have to be patient though, you're not going to become superman overnight. Lastly, just jump. running jumps for the rims, jump from a stand still, etc... Get some ankle weights and jump in them. Good luck.

start aggressive skating or skateboarding. this will improve your overall body, and es your legs. if you rollerblade while your working on grinding curbs and rails, you have about 4 pounds strapped to your legs, so its a good workout while skating someplace instead of walking, driving or taking the bus. i skate(rollerblade) and as soon as i was able to jump higher on skates i could dunk on the courts at my school, and im only 5'8. plus learning to do tricks with style works out your abs. you cant lose.

working out with you legs and wear like ankle weights when you are just walkin around or going for a run or something, adds extra weight to work your legs harder

build up your leg muscles...im a dancer and i know from experience that jumping on a trampoline helps a lot too.

use a jump rope, and when u go for the hoop, swing your arms , they help u get a lot of air too!
