David Z was mistaken, you're not going to get a ticket. Here's the way it works...

The suspect that is failing to yield (or running from the police) is responsible for the damage he or she does. Striking another person's car and continuing to run is going to get him/her charged for hit and run, reckless endangerment, high-speed flight, etc. However, that's not the question. The subject that runs is responsible for damage he/she causes.

If the police strike you're vehicle then the department will cover the costs unless you take action that causes the accident. Departments are either self insured (by the level of government to which they answer; city is the carrier for the city PD for example) or are carried by an insurance company, depending upon the size of the department.

So, in so much as you don't do anything to precipitate the accident the fleeing suspect is responsible for damage he/she causes, the PD for damage they cause.

Chaseing or puresuing at 20mph above the Posted Speed limit should not be allowed. Ok so you catch a car thief, for 3 cars totalled and $800,000 in damages, 4 dead, that just does not make any sense to me.
My grandfather told me as he was teaching me to drive, you can may be outrun a police car, but you cannot outrun a radio. That was 45 years ago.
If the, now watch closely here, the Suspect? (will take 6 pages of legalease to explain that one in this HSA era) if the one being chased hits an object, its his fault. If the Authority givieng chase hits an object, its kinda the fault of both.
If you drive in front of a Siren, thats kinda your fault. Its a 50/50 in that one.

I think it's the drivers fault for driving away while the police is trying to handle the business of you speeding or whatever the cause was.
On the other hand...the police should pay damages if they could have taken the car out with one simple hit because the ar was going to get towed away anyway so why not.

the police have lights and sirens, if you were in their way when you got hit you'll get a ticket for being in the way and they sure as hell wont fix your car for you.

if its the person running from the cops you have to file it as hit and run or uninsured/under-insured motorist

the government has money because they don't just give it all away all the time, and the criminal will not be able to pay for it because he will be making $0.12/hr in prison

i hate when people just say the first thing that's hits their brain, like "the government, that's why we have to pay taxes and stuff"

each and every time I play Grand theft automobile, i'm in contact in a loopy extreme-velocity automobile chase. Then I bounce out and beat up some hookers and scouse borrow their funds. In authentic existence even inspite of the shown fact that, not a huge gamble. =)

The police or the car being chased. Unless you were doing something illegal in the process.

Sandy girl.

Your grandfather was a man ahead of his time.

Not just because he was wise, he was also wise enough to share his thoughts.

All the best................
