One of my friends gives blood regularly. It's weird because she's deathly afraid of needles. They have to cover her arm, and everything so that she doesn't see it. She even freaks out when the prick her finger. I asked her why she still gives blood & she says it's sucks but she feels like she has too because she's type O and her blood is always in demand. I don't think she should do it anymore. I mean I understand but she's really, really scared, if they accidently show her the needle she'll start crying! Does anyone else think this is odd?

I do donate, that's how I found out about this because I said we should go together next time. And she said 'I don't know...I'm scared of needles but if you don't mind me freaking out like a child then okay.' I didn't realize how bad it was until we gave. She's normally a very strong & under control person. It was hard seeing her like that. Very hard. So I don't think she should have to do it anymore. Other people need to start giving.

Thats one brave girl. You know, I'm not afraid of needles and yet I don't donate my blood!!! After reading your question, I think I might donate after all. What and admirable character your friend is. In fact I think you should join her too, to show her that you support her :)

I knew a guy that would give blood and every time he went to donate he would pass out. Finally the Red Cross advised him not to donate. That would be my advice as well. Some people should not donate if it causes such trauma. There are so many other ways to help out in the community.

I say good for her. She will one day conquer this fear. And right now she is doing it by giving someone else a chance to survive. You need to support her. Are you giving blood? Go with her and show some support by donating at the same time.

Yes. Very strange.
But maybe her fear was gone because she knew itwas good for her community and knew it would helpeople. I'm deathly afraid of needles as well, but I'm donating blood when I'm 18

She ought to proceed to grant blood. it's going to make it extra trouble-free for her while she needs to get blood drawn for medical reason. she would be waiting to already know what to do and the thank you to handle her fears. i think of it is a great situation that she is able to stand her fears that way. and she or he's nice, type O blood is often in call for. as long as she is able to grant blood, she ought to realize this. a couple of minutes of her soreness can save as much as 3 lives. i think of it is well worth it - do no longer you?

To me yeah that is weird... Yet at the same time she's doing what feels right in her heart. Maybe she couldn't sleep good at night knowing there was someone out there she could have helped but didn't so that was the lesser of the two evils. It's hard to say.

Not at all. I have friends who give blood and faint when a needles been in them. She probably does it because she feels its helping people, and i dont blame her ^_^ its her choice, everyones scared of something, and maybe helping others by doing something shes scared of may help her in the future overcome her fear.

No, I don't. Because she/he wants to do a good thing by giving blood. Giving blood is very good. If she/he is afraid of needles and wants or has given blood, I don't think it is weird.

not at all. i think it is a brave thing to do and she's a hero. type o blood is in demand and not enough people think about it enough to get involved the way she does with her fear of needles and all. i think she should be applauded. and, it's a positive way to face her fear. give her a hug or take her out to dinner instead of trying to get her to stop. we need more people like her around. horah for her!

Not odd, but brave.
Even though she's deathly afraid she does it, despite the fears. Kudos to her.
Don't encourage her to stop just because you're weirded out, more people need to donate blood.
