Technically it was Tiswas, even though it was only shown in certain regions from 1974, Swap Shop came along in 1976.

I loved Tiswas, it was crazy, nothing like it ever since really, although a lot have tried to copy, none have achieved the total anarchy of the legend that was 'Tiswas'.

Swap Shop was the first national Saturday morning childrens show when it started in 1976 (there was a programme on BBC2 last night to mark its 30th anniversary) .

Tiswas followed later (depending on which ITV region you lived in) but had existed as a regional programme billed as 'Today is Saturday' in the Midlands since 1974.

Tiswas. I lived in the Midlands in the early 70's and remember it from then. It only went national in about 1978, I was living in a different part of the country then, and none of the kids at my school believed I'd seen it before they had!
