Light days have less bleeding or are lighter in type of blood. If you have thicker blood with clots that is a heavy day. If you are asking because you don't know what kind of pad/tampon to buy then think of it like this - if you use a regualr and it is ok for a few hours then you are light, if you need to change it each hour or two then you have a heavier flow. Some days if you can use just a panty liner and that is a light day.

On light days, you bleed lightly and usually is a pink color on the pad. On heavy days, the blood is usually red and the pads get full fast. So you will have to change more often.
