There are many such as Russia, and the U.S. is gaining on them. I say this because a large portion of our media is controlled by one individual.

It's easy to answer this question, all you have to know is a hint. Where does the freedom of speech is denied and those who express thier own opinions (which is a human right) are jailed and tortured?
I will give you the answer, Syria, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Jordan, and Tunesia... You can continue, but i guess that these are the most "famous" countries in controlling media.
For example in Syria, theres no a civil society and human rights org, and there are only 3 newspapers that belongs to bashar assad dectatorial regime.
Any country with such regimes, the media will suffer from it.

Every country's media is biased one way or the other; the free countries are biased to the left, and the dictatorships to the right(ours is to the left, before one of you smart alecks comments.)

Most of the eastern world.

Places like North Korea, China, Saudi Arabia, and Russia.

I must say though that in recent times the west is catching up with the east.

I know Austria does, I visited my cousin last summer. Their programming is very sheltered, there is no nudity or sexual content, children have an hour for TV, and after eight there is no more TV. People, don't depend on television for entertainment, especiall the people who live in the country. Also Armenia, in Armenia you will never hear a foul word on tv, or anything related to sex. Grammar is very important, whether it be children shows, teens or adults, it is all about grammar and proper speaking. Nobody is aloud to speak as they would on a day to day basis.

Worldwise nailed it.

Outside of centrally controlled states like China (which is obvious), look at Japan, too, for an example in a democratic capitalist society.

Japan-They even rewrite there history books to replace fact with fiction as to make them not look so bad. They have changed things mostly about WW ll leaving out or changing the way things really were, but have changed other things too, referring to other conflicts-A large part of japans history is aggression towards all its neighbors-with more deaths than caused by Hitler.

I think we are right up there on top, although probably one of the most clever in disguising such control by using the media to sell the people down the pike................they do all the time!
