rubber cement is toxic and isn't good to inhale.
glue sticks don't stick that well... if you're making something that's not meant to be permanent I would use a glue stick.
Any kind of glue will work though. I would use a PVA glue. Use a brush to paint it on the back of what you're sticking so it goes on evenly. Elmer's glue will work too...just make sure you have an even, thin layer on the back of what you're sticking.

Just laminating it wouldn't work because you'd have to have everything already sticking to it in the first place, otherwise it would just mess up. I would just recommend any kind of glue stick. It doesn't really matter the company. But if you get a glue stick instead of a bottle it will be less messy, stay better, and also the glue will be more evenly spread everything will lie flat on the wall.

well the best glue ever made is from horses. But if you love them don't use it, try gorilla glue. Or go the laminate way or you can go with a coating method. Most stores will carry a protect-ant spray that you can spray over your work and it more less lays a clear coat over everything sealing it from the outside in, its your choice.

it depends on the surface you are gluing the collage pieces too and the thickness of the pieces. I usually tack them down with glue stick or a thin coat of Elmer's glue thinned with some water, very thin to avoid bubbling and rippling. Then once everything is is place, I glaze it all down with Modgepodge or gel medium.

Rubber cement its like snot after it dries in case you enable it set up for some seconds to a minute it somewhat is going to be sticky yet not too sticky and could enable you to get rid of the cardboard extremely actual its not an incredible adhesive even inspite of the shown fact that it somewhat is sturdy for that utility.
