An Elle magazine, two photography magazines, some yummy tea, a book on the Sistine Chapel, preferrably coffee table style, a thick leather journal, a good pen and a Mighty Bright book light. Your life will be inspired for the whole year after you go home, break that all open and indulge yourself in it all into the night. Incense would help, too, but you can pick that up elsewhere since Barnes & Noble doesn't sell Nag Champa.

Barnes and Noble is my House of Worship. I suggest anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Christopher Moore and/or Chuck Palahniuk. David Sedaris is also very good. Or you can go old school and pick up something like, "To Kill a Mockingbird" or the complete works of Edgar Allen Poe.

Do you have 2007 calendar yet? Maybe they'll have a really great one there. This is free money! Just browse around! Buy something you would never buy for yourself with your own money. Maybe a beautiful art book or yummy cookbook or a book about somewhere you've always wanted to vacation. Or try something new like a book of poetry. You could even buy a blank journal and start to write your own masterpiece!

I went there today and got one pug calendar and a cat calendar, 3 sudoku books, then they had some kind of deal where the 5th is free, so I got a box of holiday cards. I think I got a pretty good deal since all of it was 50% off. There were lots of tables empty and not a bad line to stand in. Best of luck to you!!

I got a gift card from there myself, and I'm going to get myself one of those lap desks with the beanbag on the bottom, for one thing. I'm also going to get some literary magazines because I write, and I'm itching to try my hand at getting published in the next year. I'm told that literary magazines are a good place to start.

I'd suggest Darkly Dreaming Dexter & the sequel. That's what I really wanted for Christmas, but I didn't. I'm still happy with my music CD & my coffee mug though.

A Chippendale's calendar. Or a book for your son to read to you.
