I'm Canadian and the only soap I watch is a British one - Coronation Street. It is a laugh, and about people who seem real with real lives and real jobs.

I've never seen Sunset Beach, but what very little I have seen of any soap has been utterly terrible. I can't believe that people actually sit and watch it for enjoyment. I tried watching a soap one time and felt like I got more dumb every minute I watched. The worst that I have seen a few minutes of was Passions. Are they serious? With that doll that comes to life? Unbelievable.

Soaps, I think, are meant to be larger than life. I mean, they've got to bring the drama day in and day out. Whose baby is it? She's in a coma! He's cheating on her!
I personally have watched a soap for a couple years because my Grandma watched it. They're cheesy, hoaky, and crazy, but it's aimed at the gossipy folks out there who love them.

OH NO! Its not just you! American Television as a whole needs a little work as it IS a piece of work...just generally speaking! I'm glad you noticed! I vote for better television not just the soaps.

Are American soaps any more ridiculous than any other country's soaps? That's what they are, cheesy drama for housewives. Housewives don't usually lead exciting drama filled lives so we need some entertainment.

soaps are made for addled minded people and the stupid with nothing better to do than watch immoral people committing immoral acts and teaching all the wrong values in a society that is drowning in corruption and have distanced themselves from GOD I feel very sorry for the actors and the people that watch that horrible stuff

some of them like Passions really are ridiculous, but others are really well done (Y&R, Guiding Light)
