usually, my notebook makes this sound when it turns on, but recently, when i turn it on it doesnt make a peep!! Also, nothing works once i turn it on and this weird popup appears that says "application about to terminate" or something like that. and its also insanely slow. does this mean that i have to buy a fan thing or something for my labtop?

Your computer symptoms tell me you have quite a nasty virus lingering in your system.
1. Get an antivirus from a store (just pay $30.00 come'on its just once.)
2. Scan your computer with the program, then delete anything that has virus traces.
3. Restart your computer then see how it goes if you still see problems call your computers manufacturer and ask them what is going on they will give you professional help on the phone or you can ship it to them. Hope this helps, Brodster

It sound like its muted, you can come out of mute (on laptops) holding down the Fn key whilst pressing the F8 key (or what ever key has the mute sign on).
Might be a problem or loose connection with your internal speakers.
