Download and install two things
1. Download and install Segate Personnel Firewall which is completely free. It will prevent viruses from coming into your computer without your permission.
You can download Segate Personnel Firewall from the following link
http://www.symantec.com

2. Download and install AVG Free Version 7.5 which is again completely free. It will scan your computer from the previous viruses and remove them from your computer. Next time whenever you download any file, scan it with AVG. you can download it from Internet from the following link.
http://free.grisoft.com

I will recommend only above software for better protection. As I am also using the above.

The only way you will get a virus onto you PC is if you allow one to be installed.

The basic rule is: Don't open any unsolicited email attachments (and be careful of ones even sent from known senders too).

There are quite a few free anti-virus programs you can download. There is also ZoneAlarm, which is a great firewall and is also free to download too.

Everything on the net is free you just need to know where to go to find it but first go to zonelab and download there firewall then surf the net antivirus should come 2nd compared to a firewall when going online.
