Hell no you aren't! Charles Bukowski was a man few people truly understand, but those who do are just on a different wavelength than your everyday schmo as i see it. I dont know. He is honestly probably my favorite writer ever- and that's a fact i find hard to explain to most people as most people either:

a) haven't ever heard of him, or,
b) don't understand his view of the world at all.

Many of the things he wrote were crass, i'll give them that- but even so: what i love about Bukowski is the fact that he was completely unafraid of being brutally honest in EVERYTHING he did. he was raw, man. most people can't take that because so many people are so busy pushing their true feelings down- everyone has secrets, things they don't talk about. ****, he's like the ultime outsider- he didn't fit in anywhere really, not even with the beat poets, though he's mostly considered one.
ham on rye is my favorite book in the world.

anyway, check it out:
http://bukowski.net/ - definitely. there's everything here. check out his paintings too.
http://www.levee67.com/bukowski/ - great archive of poetry, short stories, etc. really worth looking at.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=2162 - buk's gravesite. "don't try" - ha. only him.

"We can go on and on but would only be accused of being bitter and demented, but the world makes madmen (and women) of us all, and even the saints are demented, nothing is saved." - Charles Bukowski
