So I have about three weeks before I head back to school. I really want to read a great, life changing book. Any recommendations?

I agree with that guy who said PostSecret--that is a pretty amazing book. But the one that did it for me was The Disappearance of the Universe by Gary Renard. Made me look at life in a totally different way--changed many of my spiritual views and set me on different paths.

Jesus, A Revolutionary Biography, by John Dominic Crossan.
Many Christians don't like books like this - they say just read the bible! And I do not believe in attempting to prove matters of faith.
But this book draws a picture of Jesus as a radical egalitarian who practiced open commensuality (yes I had to look that up, too). Lots more, then my fav part is in the end where he says the historical Jesus as far as we can tell was ..... and different people reacted differently, as in: he is crazy, ignore him; he is dangerous, kill him; he is divine, worship him.
There is more to it than that of course. But it got me interested in practicing Christianity, so I guess that qualifies as life changing.
For general book recommendations, in reading aloud to my kids I discovered that the 4-5 books on the Newbury Awards list that I knew were all excellent, so I decided to read them all. Not done yet, but they are ALL excellent, even though they are for youth.
(OK, 2 were so old and odd I could not read them, but all the others were fabulous.)

Read the book, "PostSecret" By Frank Warren. I don't know if you have ever heard of it...but it is an entire book of postcards sent to the author. They postcards consist of people's anonomys secrets. Some are funny, sad, WOW. I think that everyone needs to read this. It makes you think, Wow my life could be sooo much worse. :) If you want to see what the book is like...go to postsecret.blogspot.com .It is updated every sunday.

'How reading changed my life' by Anne Quindlen, Ray Bradburys-'Fahrenheit 451', 'Inherit the Wind', 'A Prayer for Owen Meany' by John Irving, I haven't read it but I hear it's a good book- 'Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance.' Short story to read is 'The Bet'- by Anton Chekhov.
